How to spawn Xenopus borealis?

What is best temperature range?


Spawning substrate? yarn mops, live or plastic plants?


I have not found much on the internet.

I feed live feed and pellets. I added plastic plants and spawn mop to the 10 gallon tank. I have seen amplexus both in the day and night. The has the dark pads.


How long is the wait for eggs. Days? weeks?



The males has been calling at night. It is a weird sound.

I use plastic plants for them to lay their eggs on. I feed them mostly salmon pellets but they eat a wide variety of carnivore food. Room temperature is fine. They do not need a heater. Doing a big water change with cold water can trigger spawning if they are in breeding condition.

I finally got eggs. They spawned after eating black worms and one of many thunder storms going through. Not many hatched but they probably do not know what they are doing. They mostly put eggs in yarn mop and on the sponge filter.


The eggs started hatching 36 hours later.
