Hey guys I'm currently living in Central Florida with my 6 cyanurus, 2 orientalis, and 4 notothalmus v. , there's a tropical storm/possible hurricane hitting us on Monday. I've been a native Floridian all my life I remember hurricane Charlie knocked out the power at my house for over 3 weeks, I didn't have any salamanders back then though. My main concern is Florida afternoon temperatures hit the 90's to 100's daily. What can I do to protect my newts in case of the worst?

I would say go out and try to find ice packs (Non-toxic) and keep them cool with the ice

You can buy 12 volt cooler boxes that plug into the power socket in cars and trucks, but they will also run on a car battery charger or any 12v dc supply if you have small generator running while the power is out. They aren't massively efficient, but they do the job, I use one if I have to transport newts in the car in hot weather.

Put ice packs in your freezer now. If your power is knocked out put the salamanders on sphagnum moss in delicups. Put the cups in a cooler with the icepacks wrapped in newspaper. Check your aquatic tanks to be sure you have airline check valves so water does not back up through airlines.

Now that's good advice, I've had tanks empty themselves more then once through the air pump, in fact it would have happened last year when I'd been working on my 75 gallon if I hadn't noticed the wet floor.
