A while back I was trying to recreate a Hynobius habitat in the form of a paluraium and after several tries and ceaseless experimentation, I came up with a paludarium which, I hope functions well for Hynobius species.
The tank is 33.5CM x 38.5CM x 48.5CM (Length/Breadth/Height) paludarium with an 18 cm water depth at the front. The tank contains approx 25 litres of water.
The land area consist of a base of terrarium granules (similar to lava rocks) held in place by four light stone bricks. On top of this some pieces of slate and large river pebbles weigh the granules down and prevent them from floating. The brick is camouflaged with some moss and there the cork piece forms a sort of roof this there is a small chamber behind the waterfall for shelter. The area has both moist and dry areas.
Water is being pumped up via a hose and flows down the cork bark which has been hot water treated so no tanins will seep in. The water flows down the cork bark creating a cascading water effect. Not so much a water fall but a sort of stream something similar to a photo I used in this thread by Tim Johnson depicting the habitat of Hynobius kimurae (thanks for the marvelous photos Tim!)

For the cascading waterfall effect, I reffered to a photo of a habitat for Hynobius sonani provided by Ming-Jieh Lin:

Combining the two ideas for a habitat suitable for Hynobius, I came up with this setup:
Here is a close up of the cascading water:
The aquatic area is large enough for breeding/ habitation. The bottom consists of some medium sized smooth pebbles and a large river stone. The aquatic area is incomplete as I intend to add some aquatic plants and one area remains bare for easier cleaning. The pump is an Exo-Terra Repti-Flo 250 (kindly provided by Mark, thanks mate!) and a small Elite Stingray 5 underwater filter. The flow of the water is directional and can be increased or lowered according to preference. The water is now being cycled.
This is still a work in progress and there could be some slight alteration but the basic setup is done.
Any suggestions?
