This is a previous forum post about ich and axolotls. I haven't found one about newts and ich but it seems that axolotls can get ich so it is possible that newts can:

Many thanks, here in italy we use Methylene blue for ick disease and also for newt micosis
But the Methylene blue also kill the plants! as for now i separate the animals from the tank and use salt and Methylene blue...
reading your thread i think ick can attack axolotl but its very rare.
Since the newt are different from fish and Ambystoma i really hope that the newt are safe from this thing!
