Hi there my name is Vicky im 19 and have just got my first axie on easter friday.I called him Earl.He sooo Cute.
I just have a few questions to ask and apologise if they have already been asked.
First is there anyway to tell how old he is?I already determined thats hes a boy.he has a swelling at the base of his tail. The tips of his toes are white and hes about 6-7inchs long.
Hes on gravel at the moment but changing to sand at the weekend
2. Whats a good stable diet.Im feeding him bloodworm and have some mysis shrimp as well and how often should he be fed and how do i know hes getting enough. Can i put it in a bowl?
Really sorry for the long post but any help wud be wonderful
thank you

Hiya Vicky and welcome to the site and ive just realised you are from near where i live.

.A good staple diet for axies are earthworms.Number of worms depends on their appetite. but give around 2 or 3 smaller ones chopped up...they can be put on a plate at the bottom of the tank if needed. a sign they may be full is that they regurgitate them and the worm piece is covered in a brown slime. its hard to tell the age of an axie unless you have had it from birth. but would say he would be around 6months to a year depending on if he is still growing or not.

any more information you need just ask and people will get back to you as soon as possible.

good look with the axie and post pics if you can in the gallery.

Thanks alot claire. Its nice to know there someone close by with the same interest.Hes a very dark colour but a little lighter underneath.I would really like one of the white ones too.wud it be ok to put them in the same tank?.Do you know anywhere in sunderland that sells them?

It sounds to me like you have a wildtype axolotl. Axolotls can be put in the same tank together, it just needs to be big enough. They may sometimes nip each other at feeding times but that is normal.

ive actually got some babies but they need to be kept in a separate tank till they reach the same size as the one you have. i havent actually found anywhere in sunderland that sells them but there is a shop in darlington called coast to coast and they usually have some in.they didnt have any white ones when i went...only black...i cant remember if they were melanoid or dark wildtype.
my female axie sounds like the same colour as yours. at normal glance she look like dark/black with a lighter grey under her belly. but when i take pics she is a dark olice colour and also has the golden ring around her pupil in her eye which means she is wildtype.
i have an ad in the adtrader about my axie babies if you want to look on there.
where did you get your current axie from?

I got it from a shop in manchester when i took a ride with my dad.didnt realise what he was until i got home to do a little research, i just thought he was so cute!.Iv seen an ad the to ad mag for houghten lee spring.is that you?

yeah thats me.lol.but my axies are in hartlepool. i sold 5 babies yesterday!was so happy.i didnt realise many people up here liked or kept axies.im just glad they have homes that can give them the attention they need.
ive seen the shop that sells the axies where you got yours from.well i think ive seen it...is it opposite the manchester apollo? i saw it when i was queueing up to see snoop dogg at the apollo. i never actually went in. im going to have a look next time im in manchester.
