I've actually been using the forum for a couple weeks but didn't want to introduce myself until I made sure my A. maculatum morph was going to survive the month. Now that he's eating, I can feel more like a part of the group.
I grew up in New England and am very familiar with the species local to my area. At least, I thought I was until I saw the huge wealth of knowledge on this forum! In the spring I'm a "Salamander Crossing Guard" for a local citizen science organization, the Ashuelot River Valley Environmental Observatory (AVEO) where I am also an intern. I'm about to start applying to grad schools where I want to get a degree in herpetology, conservation biology, or design my own program around vernal pool ecology. Currently I have a BA in environmental science with a concentration in animal conservation. It's great to see so many people determined to give their pets happy, healthy lives, and promoting so much captive breeding. I'm new to keeping salamanders as pets, so wish me luck!
