I went into what's normally a great little shop today for some crickets, and noticed they had some axolotls. When I went over to have a look, one of them had two missing legs and a third that was hanging by a thread. The other axie in there was probably 3 inches bigger... One of the stumps is covered in some kind of fungus, the other two just showing old, dying tissue. When I went to ask the guy at the counter if he'd noticed, his response was something along the lines of "yeah, that's normal. They eat each other like that, but it's cool because they regrow their legs." I asked about the fungus- "nah, it's just how it looks." Would they consider discounting the price if someone wanted to purchase him? (Missing limbs aside, he's a really cute little melanoid man!) "No, his legs will regrow, so that's how much he costs." Um? I've NEVER known any store to pass up an opportunity to rid themselves of an obviously ill and injured animal, but ok. I just can't believe he thought it was ok! This guy is new to the store, so I'm going to go in another day and hope someone different is there- preferably the owner. I'm so mad. I hate seeing neglect like that- especially in what's normally been a wonderful store!
