As a child I had several newts. At differing times, a fire belly, rough skin and eastern newts. At the time, they seemed a bit plain. My four year old son learned of my childhood newts and my wife decided to buy a tank. Then the surprise--the common and cheap newts have disappeared. At least from Michigan. I've subsequently read and learned more about the 201 ban, but now that it's over what gives?

If anyone has newts for sale, or real leads--I've called dozens of stores, visited several in person, I would be greatly appreciative.

Watch our 'for sale' section. You can't really find them in stores anymore because there is a ban on imports. This is actually a good thing.

I thought the ban was lifted? Why is it a good thing to ban the movement within the states if the concern was overseas? And with such a seemingly strong community, here, surprised that breeders aren't filling the local pet stores.

The interstate ban is lifted but not the international.
As far as breeders supplying pet stores, there aren't THAT many , and we can sell just fine on the internet. The pet stores want them cheap cheap cheap and all the effort breeders put in, it isn't worth selling to stores. Maybe axolotls, they can be more easily mass produced, but otherwise to find a cb newt in a pet store would be really rare. Plus they don't just buy from anyone, you can't just walk into a PetCo and sell them your newts.
