I have read about the beneficial effects of Indian almond leaves but I am confused. I have read that axies like hard water, but Indian almond leaves apparently make water softer, so wouldn't that be contraindicated for axies under normal conditions? Under what circumstances should Indian almond leaves be used with axies? Presumably, they should not be used on a day-to-day basis but only as treatment for a skin condition?
Thanks everyone for taking the time to give your advice and opinions. I really want to do the very best I can for Boris, the albino axie, with whom we share a house, and there is so so so much to learn.

I've never used them but I know that most things that release tannins into the water lower pH. You really shouldn't be worried too much as long as you are not adding too much at once which would just make the water tint darker. Not everyone has access to hard water or even water conditions like they have in the wild. Axolotls kept in softer water can sometimes be a little anemic, where they just become very inactive for a little while until feeding and stuff. Most people will tell you to use them if your axolotl gets injured in any way to prevent infection and help the skin heal. There really isn't any harm with using them constantly but it makes the water tinted and is not the most aesthetically pleasing lol
