It has dawned on me that the worms I have been culturing are actually just red wigglers (eisenia fetida), which explains why my alpine newts have been hesitant to eat them. I am considering buying Indian Blue Worms and culturing those instead. Does anyone know a good source to get those in the US? Also does anyone have any experience with culturing them? I've heard they like to escape during thunderstorms.

When I purchased European Nightcrawlers from Uncle Jim's, there were also a few Indian Blue Worms. For me, they climbed up the sides constantly (thanks to condensation), so they were fed off first.

It's a very common complaint to have Indian Blues mixed in with Red Wrigglers - if you dig around your colony, you might be able to find a few.
