Hello all,

I recently got a wild type axolotl that is six months old and approximately 5-6 inches long, and is looking like a female, but it is still to early to tell. "She" is in quarantine for the time being before I try to introduce her to my established system. I have a 20 gallon long right now with a 9-10 inch long male leucistic axolotl that I will have had for a year in at the end of September. My question is when and how should I introduce the new guy?

I'm upgrading to a bigger set-up in August (55 gallon), but my concern is that I do not want the two of them to breed anytime really soon because that would be really hard on the female, and I am not sure if I am ready to handle eggs and babies.

Being six months old, would there be a danger of them trying to breed too soon? Or could they not breed until she is older anyway? And is there anyway that I could avoid eggs and babies? Or how should I handle that?

Thanks!
