I just bought some Irish Moss for my 40 G Tylototriton kweichowensis. Does anyone know if this stuff is safe to go in?

Isn't it a seaweed type of algae?

It´s also the common name of a european plant from the caryophyllaceae family. Quite nice, but i´m not sure it does well in terrariums.

Ok well it was pretty cheap, I put some in and I'll see what happens. I don't have a light next to my tank(I could) but it's just next to the window so we shall see.

I tried it. It needs lots of light and prefers it quite dry. All of mine grew stringy and died evetually.

Yeah, it´s one of those plants that grows in gravel patches with no soil. I don´t think it can adapt to a caudate terrarium...

I'm willing to bet what your speaking of is Pearlwort. It can do fine in a Kweichowensis tank so long as you have good drainage. This can be done by simply not allowing the substrate to compact and not allowing it to get sloppy wet. Adding sand and sphagnum to the sbustrate helps keep it aired out and helps with drainage. It prefers full light to slight shade.

Azhael is right, it is popular in rock gardens but again with proper drainage in the substrate it can do well in a Viv.

Ya it looks like Pearlwort. Well it never gets direct sunlight, usually just light through the window. I'm using the Coir mix substrate so I think my drainage is all right.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
