Question: Is it safe to add conditioner/cleaning chems while your Axi is in the tank?

I'm guessing it's a BIG no, but I'm just wondering since I cannot completely clean the tank out every week. I'm going to do the 20% water method (and fully clean the tank once a month), where I will put clean water into a bucket and chemical-ise it then. The only problem is, I'm worried about the bacteria from the unchanged water. Can I get away with adding a few extra drops into the tank? I know it's a stupid question :| :errr:

Completely cleaning your tank out will blow the cycle, partial weekly water changes and removal of solid waste is the usual method.

I use reptisafe- I do water changes and add it directly to my tank while adding new water and have had no problems!

I'm not sure if I actually understand your question completely. Are you asking whether you need to do something about bacteria in the unchanged water that's left in the tank? If so, the answer is no, there is no need to add anything extra to the water left in the tank - you only need to treat the tap water you are putting INTO the tank with a water conditioner to remove chlorine and chloramines. Putting the water conditioner directly into the bucket of tap water before adding the water to the tank is the usual method of doing this, though some people add the water and the treatment to the tank separately (though at the same time of course). Putting untreated tap water into your tank is not good for your beneficial bacteria - chlorine kills them.
Your thread title includes the words 'cleaning chemicals'. It goes without saying that you should not put ANY cleaning chemicals into your tank while your axie is in there, and if you do use cleaning chemicals in a tank, you would need to rinse it thoroughly and repeatedly of any residue before filling it with water to house an axie.
