Wondering if my 6/7 month old albino axolotl is too pink? a lot of my friends say he is too pink for being albino. his tank is 60-62°F on average, no ammonia, 7.6/7.8 PH, his gills arent curled and he is eating fine (nightcrawlers). his gills also turn red when he eats/is active. although, he is barely active. whenever i see him hes laying or in his cave. when he was younger he'd swim back and forth in his tank.

he looks perfectly fine to me! especially if his parameters are perfect and there's no signs of stress! sometimes when axolotls are more active, the bloodflow makes their gills brighter. activity levels usually decrease as they get older.

some pictures of albinos and golden albinos that i've raised for reference of how pink they can be

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
