I am newer to the axolotl world. We have had our wild type, Axel, for about a year now. I’m concerned about his sides turning white. Is this something to get concerned about?? He is eating and acting normally.

It’s quite possible my husband picked him up from a pet store and wasn’t told what type it was. We just assumed it was a wild type due to how he looked. Is it possible you have an enigma type? They are sold only in the U.S. and yours looks like it is developing patterns closely akin to an enigma type.
Do you know how old he was when you got him? Very intriguing you got him at a pet store. The patterns are indeed matching of an enigma type and I am strongly inclined to say yours is of the super-rare enigma type variety. It’s quite possible my husband picked him up from a pet store and wasn’t told what type it was. No he was pretty small. We were assuming a couple months old. He is probably about a year old now.Do you know how old he was when you got him? Very intriguing you got him at a pet store. Hmmm...I hope others can possibly weigh in on the morph but it certainly has the coloration of an enigma right now...No he was pretty small. We were assuming a couple months old. He is probably about a year old now.
