I am newer to the axolotl world. We have had our wild type, Axel, for about a year now. I’m concerned about his sides turning white. Is this something to get concerned about?? He is eating and acting normally.

The description matches your photo very well. If the seller marked it as a wild type and sold you an enigma for the price of a wild, then you may have possibly just gotten the steal of a century, possible a millennium.
It’s quite possible my husband picked him up from a pet store and wasn’t told what type it was. We just assumed it was a wild type due to how he looked.

Do you know how old he was when you got him? Very intriguing you got him at a pet store. The patterns are indeed matching of an enigma type and I am strongly inclined to say yours is of the super-rare enigma type variety.
