It this a curled tail from stress?

Hi,

I noticed last night one of my axies tail was curled, his gills look normal, and I had just done a water change that morning (was not curled before the water change when I fed them).

The only changes to the tank in the past few days, apart from the water change, have been that I removed a partition separating the males from my female and this axie (not sure sex yet so it lived with the female) as a male broke through and my female laid eggs before I could move him back, so figured I'd take it down as she belonged to my ex and he was coming to pick her up in a few days so why bother fixing it.

I thought I would leave it the night and check again on him this morning, tail was still currled and he seemed a little lethargic but was hungry (let me pick him up to get him out of the tank without a fight), I did a water test Amonia 0 Nitrite 0 nitrate 40-60ppm, temp is 18-19c (64-66F). I took him out this morning and popped him in the fridge as I had to get to work and thought if something is upsetting him I should remove him. Below are some pics of him in the tub trying to show the tail curl.

He did have some fungus a week ago but that has since cleared up. My other two in the tank seem perfectly fine.

Any thoughts?

usually when i see a "curled tailed" on an axolotl as a sign of stress its much more curled than your axies, the tip will be almost like a full U. If he/she is eating well and acting normal generally that would be a good sign. You did mention the lethargy but hopefully tht is not an indicator of something bad but from being moved around or the previous fungus infection.

You should keep a close eye on the lil fellow and make sure he/she is acting alright. change in behavior in a negative way is usually the best sign tht there might be something wrong

Thanks for the reply. because I popped him in the fridge due to having to rush to work I left him there a few days. "defrosted" him put him back in the tank and he's back for normal.
