When the axolotl uses his legs and itches his gills, does it mean anything bad? Like when a dog uses its hind leg to itch his ears? Just a harmless itch or sick gills? Gills look normal just saw him itch it a few times.

I saw a some tiny copepods, I hope they are not making gills itch. I don't see why they would.

Sometimes an itch is just an itch! If he starts doing it continuously and behaving completely out of the norm, then look at what it could be.

Every since being active on this forum, every time my axolotls exhibit a behavior I have not seen before I get drawn to ask.

There is not a definitive guide to axolotl behavior and husbandry. With the popularity of axolotl increasing, I am in favour of some sort of new publication. And axolotl.org is a great site, but all everything and detailed, nor do I believe it should be, for what it is.

Most axolotl publications are academic or grossly outdated. I do not understand why there are no newer publications, especially one that falls between acadamia and beginer information.
