Ok I have another annoying question =)

I've read that you can attach java fern to smooth stones - do they actually latch on very well? I've got river stones stuck to pvc piping, what are my chances of getting java fern to stick to it? The guy at the shop I bought it from said it wouldn't wrap around a single stone or go into the gaps between them but might eventually go around the whole thing. It was the same guy who told me never to cycle a freshwater tank, so I'm seeking a second opinion.

Thanks guys!

I would wedge them in between the rocks if you can. They can also be glued in place.

That person does not sound like the type you should take any advice from.

It will latch onto wood, and I have some with roots firmly latched to some small pebbles. But I think it might be easier to get it to attach to wood. I used some of those bendable plant weights to help attach some java fern onto driftwood.

You could always use the thread trick but I have found some plants depending on the way tehy are kept may not root fast enough. I actually had some Java Fern take forever to root and the thread ripped or rotted off.

What I have done in the past was I took a bowl of water or anything that the plant can be submerged in and just used a dab of crazy glue to set the root. When the glue contacts the water it hardens almost instantly and is 100% safe.

Thanks for the suggestions guys =)

It's looking pretty sad, if it perks up again I'll try the glue.

It might sound odd but you can buy something called invisible thread. Its used for sewing purposes to hide stitches and its made from nylon so its very strong and doesn't break when submerged in water. I used it to attach my anubia to wood, its very good.

fishing line works awesomely.
