Is this a sign of something serious?
Ever since one of my tanks crashed, killing one of two adult male axlotl’s, the surviving and by all accounts healthy axlotl Jetsam, has been on the move (more or less) non stop. They were both nearly 4 yrs old and as soon as I opened my eyes to find a terribly murky, stinky, brownish tank, I removed them, and a few days later, tank numbers back to normal, I returned Jetsam to his tank. However, Jetsam has not behaved the same since, he is not eating much, nor does he respond “like himself” when I engage him on a daily basis. He freezes when I come lose, turn his back on me and walks as far away as he can from me. He also appears to have panicked, almost crazy looking eyes. It’s not him. Last night, approximately 30 minutes after feeding him (and my other two adult lucistic axies who live in the tank next next door to him) the usual diet...live black worms, (most of which he spit out, if not all, as soon as he caught them, which is also totally out of character for him...he is my biggest eater by far and the most interactive of the, now three), I caught him “dry” heaving under the hanging filter intake sponge. I’m seriously getting worried here. It’s been 3 weeks since the tank crashed (I believe that my cat was able to get his paw in the tank whiched caused the crash) and now he is literally resting with all fours off the ground, balancing on his belly, utilizing tank decorations as a sort of balance.
I don’t know what else to do besides fridge him but I’ve already done that once, hoping it would cause a reset of sorts but he went right back to swimming up, down, all around, as if he hasn’t got a care in the world. Not eating much...not responding normally to me or even to his food source. I’m hoping somebody here could give me some advice. I’m low on cash and really wish to avoid going to a vet since the only time I did go, it wasn’t any help.
I’m devistated still about losing Floatsom (his brother/tank mate) and now I’m afraid I may lose Jetsam. He hasn’t had a healthy meal for three weeks at least.
