I have a small axie who up until now has been doing great..
I recently noticed that the tips of some of her gills are turning white and aren't as fluffy..
I'm not sure what's going on!
I cleaned her tank with a fresh water change and all of the levels are good. The temp is 67 and she's eating well and everything ):
I have a clean low-flow filter also..

What's going on??
Left side in pic.. she just ate so her tummy is full.. sorry for quality

It could be new growth, gill tips turn white when there is new growth occurring. I would advise purchasing an API fresh water master kit so you can keep an eye on your tank parameters.

I have the kit and my water levels are all reading where they should be..

I hadn't considered new growth as a possibility.. thank you!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
