So just last week we had gotten this new humidifier, but it seems my tiger salamander, Kira-Ki, behaves as though he doesn't like it when we switch it on. It only gives off a fog that is really hard to see through and when the fog clears, I notice Ki dragging his face from side to side through his substrate or hiding away in his log.
-Important side note; I have learned that the "face-dragging-nope" gesture means he doesn't like or he hates something new placed into or done with the enclosure. I'm not sure if any other salamander owners out there have experienced this sort of behavior, but feel free to let me know if you have, (or even if yours has acted in similar way). He doesn't do this with everything, just some few selected things. For example, times he accidentally caught moss or substrate while hunting food and the big red worms I tried to feed him once only resulted in him doing said gesture before wandering off and rejecting them completely. Later I did some research on the worms and apparently salamanders find them bitter tasting and wouldn't eat them unless they absolutely needed to. So I made up for them with some crickets afterwards as an apology >.< -
Anyways, he seems to be acting as though the fogger bothers him...my question is, can anyone tell me what might be better? The moss in his tank seems to hold moisture but only for a little while, thus it requires constant spraying. This causes me to worry during the long periods of time I am away from home for. Is the fog machine the only option I have to maintain the correct humidity or is there something else I can look into trying?
I really do appreciate any advice given, it would really help. I just want to do my best to give him a happy life and comfortable home.
