Quick question, does anyone know how to sex Budget's frogs?

I recently picked up a pair and both have black hard keel's on their back feet. I know most male anurans have Nupital pads on their front legs but I havent heard of them on the back legs...?

*By the way neither of them have dark throats. both are 3.5 to 4 inches long.

Thanks,

Marco.

I will admit I know nothing about Lepidobatrachus laevis, but a quick search on AmphibiaWeb and I found the following captions.

"Females of this species may reach a total body length (SVL) of 100 mm, while a sexually mature male may be only half as large."
"Sexually mature males possess a dark blue-black throat (Budgett 1899; Cei 1980)."

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
