Hi All,

This is just a poll for kicks, and I'm welcoming all opinions for opinion's sake. I know everything is subjective and different person to person.

I currently I have 3 alpine newts that I adore. There's a reptile/amphibian show coming up, and I'm considering possibly adding my last amphibian pet to my household (in their own enclosure).

I'm torn between a tiger salamander, a duo or trio of blue-spotted salamanders (if they'll even be available) and a duo or trio of eastern newts. I'm leaning a little to the land species since I already have aquatic newts, but I also like how much easier aquatic newts are to feed.

I don't really need something that's out and visible 24/7.

Which do you like and why?

Thanks!

Tigers are by far the most engaging and easy to keep of the species you mentioned. I would choose Blue spots as a close second, because they are a personal favorite of mine. I have several of them, they are doing well, but I very seldom see them.

Thank you for the great feedback!

I agree with Herpin Man, tigers are the most fun :D However I did not vote for them . I have A. maculatum which are far less bold. They, do spend quite a lot of time hiding away but they are usually visible. I don't tend to hand feed my animals, but they have gently bullied me into doing so. A nice planted set up would be really good for these.

Thank you for the vote! I considered those, too, but I don't know if you can even sell them in Minnesota. They are rare in the wild here, and I'm not sure if outside vendors can even sell them here.

Bait shops here will occasionally sell tiger salamander larva.

If you are referring to next week's show in Bloomington at the Best Western next to the MOA; there will likely be Ambystoma maculatum, if the Little Critter's Pet Shop brings them. Most likely she'll have Barred Tigers as well; and I will have one for sale there too. I'll also be bringing four, maybe five species of aquatic newts as well.

Yep, that's the one. Thanks for the info!

For all the people who voted "other," what is your other choice? Thanks.

I've never been to an Amphibian show before! When/where is this happening? I'd love to check it out.
