Question: Laying eggs without mating?

Hello,

I have a female Japanese Fire Belly newt who I initially thought was having abnormal feces (white/milky), but now that I have been closely monitoring her, she seems to be laying eggs for the first time ever, however, she has been alone (no mating) for the past several years.
Am I right in that she is laying eggs? If so, how is this even possible?

I have absolutely no idea- What I know from reptiles that females can still lay eggs even when they are alone- they are just infertile-- so it could be the same maybe...? I know reptiles do but not sure about amphibians.

Thank you for your input. I have had her for over 20 years, and this has never happened before, so I was quite concerned as I didn’t know what was happening and I just want her to be okay. She has been laying eggs everyday for the past week, (a couple per day) and I don’t know when it’s going to stop .
