I just found out my dorm is closing next week, so I did not make arrangements to bring my tank home or move it to a friends house. I am worried about leaving them for the week. I have one that is 12 inches and another that is about 8 inches long (separated from one another). Their tank is a constant 70 degrees, and both are a good weight.

I guess the question is can I leave them for the week and have them be fine?

Yes they'll be fine. Feed before you leave and be ready to feed again and clean tank upon returning. I had to leave adults for a week a couple years ago and they were fine. Of course they weren't separated and I returned to some lovely eggs :D

They won't starve to death in a week.

I know I read the post of one guy last year or the year before who fed his axie once a week and had for years.

Before axies are shipped, they usually fast 3 or 4 days, and then spend another 2 or three days in the mail.

So, they will probably survive just fine, but be very hungry when you get back.

I recommend you check with facilities and make sure they aren't planning to fumigate or cut power over break. If so, you NEED to get your axolotls elsewhere.

I also recommend you do a water change right before you leave. Be careful to dechlorinate etc - it is easy to make mistakes when clearing out of a dorm.

Check your college schedule for future closures and put reminders in your smart phone (if you have one) so it doesn't happen again. (The appropriate answer is, "Yes, mom" since you are triggering all of my "mom" instincts. ;))

Thank you so much I had not thought of the power and such! and absolutely will not happen again.
