Lesions, sores, wounds...??

I did it again. I was reading something about "rotting legs" in the "common names" forum, and thought I was here. Sorry.

I've been reading these help boards even though nothing is wrong with my salamander and I don't even have my axos' yet and was wondering....

...the liquid bandage for humans... is that possibly something we could use on amphibs?

...and neosporin... I've used it anyway on a frog and various lizards... but I always thought a petroleum product was bad for amphibs...

I would not recommend the use of liquid bandages for amphibians. If I remember correctly this is manufactured from a nitrocellose base. It would inhibit cutaneous respiration of the animal.

LOL! Thanks a lot Ed! Send me to the dictionary to double check the meaning!! Now I know what my hubby feels like! So, in short, their skin can't breathe, right?

Hi Sharon,
A little more than that as many amphibians exchange large volumes of gases in this manner but the essence is correct.
I haven't looked at the solvent base in which the nitrocellulose is dissolved but I doubt that it is water.

Ed you are a doll! Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me! I knew there was hole in that idea, but couldn't see it!
