Hoping somebody here can help me out. My axolotl hasn’t been moving a whole lot in the past week or two, hasn’t eaten or barely has (ate some but spit it all up later), hasn't pooped, and has a bend on the tip of his tail. His past tank didn’t have the greatest parameters but he has a new tank and everything should be fine now. He still responds to interaction, as in when he sees my hand he will look to it and sometimes move to it, but other than that he doesn’t move a whole bunch. I’m wondering if he is possibly constipated, or if his issues are simply because of the poor conditions of his old tank and he will improve? I’m really worried about him so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

He could be constipated, or he could be just settling into his new home.
My 18 month old is a big, lazy lump and has a good sized 4 foot tank all to himself. I noticed some time ago that he rarely ventures away from his cave and rock area. He just doesn't really do much at all except wait for his next meal.
Your little bloke looks ok to me, but i haven't the experience to figure out exactly what is going on. Although his stance suggests he might be constipated.

Thank you for the input! I do kind of suspect he may be constipated as this is the longest he has gone without pooping, and am considering fridging him. I‘ll have to research how to do it properly and hope it works. Thank you!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
