My poor little Niko seems to have so many problems.
Ok so firstly, is it normal for a leucistic Axie to go really red when they are fridged? I would guess from the circulation and the fact that being in a fridge probably makes them more paler?
But since he/she has been fridged it doesnt look good to me. I was expectign the veins to look a little more red anyway. But her head looks fatter/swollen and the red isnt just veins its actual skin that looks red to me.
I just checked the temp and its about 6-7C which according to the fridging guide is spot on ok.
I've now turned it up a bit as I was worried that maybe this is why.
Secondly, ive been salt bathing for about 3 days now, and she has been in the fridge for about a week. She is in there because she has a fungal problem, and it is definitly fungal i've checked so many other threads here so there is no problem on that front. But since fridging and salt bathing it hasnt got better, maybe worse, I now see some fungal growth on her body and hands and feet. I've tried to gently remove the stuff if I can see it flapping about as id rather it not end up floating in the water to attach on her someplace else. But I am obviously not pulling off fully attached stuff because I imagine thats like pulling off skin, not cool. Stuff on the hands and feet seems to come off easily enough just by letting her pull her legs through my fingers gently but the bigger problems would be the gills I think. at one point it seemed to have almost gone and was only a tiny bit on one gill (before I was salt bathing), but then it seemed to have boomed back even worse the next day and now i've started bathing her each day when I get home from work following the salt bathing guide. Is there anything else i can use besides salt? I probably wouldnt trust chemicals out here to be honest. =/
and finally, is it normal to get axies that just always have problems?
Because I have two
Ace is a big yellow beast I got about 1 week before Niko, and I have had them both for over a year now happily, no problems, tank all good.
Recently I did have tank problems which is where Niko's problems came from, even with ice bottles its hard to maintain a cool water temp in a Chinese summer.
But, Ace has no problems what so ever. It is just Niko.
when I first got Niko she was missing an arm. It was already healing so grew back fast enough once I took her. But she has never really grown in size at all.
she eats, so its not like she doesn't eat anything. she eats a mixture of pellets and worms the same as Ace. when I got them they were the same size, but now Ace is twice the size and Niko has maybe grown a few mm.
Is that normal? Is that a tell tale sign of their gender or something? Because I still have never checked their packages, I gave up on that after about a month of no show and tell.
So basically, Niko always has problems since day one, getting her to eat was a problem to start with then she took to just nibbling away here and there, still not loads, but she isn't going hungry. But Ace has never had a problem at all. same conditions, same food, same everything. Yet Niko has fungal problems and floating problems nearly constantly one after the other, I can't keep on top of her. Typical woman, so demanding and fussy. :grin: and Ace is a typical rough guy taking a back seat without a care in the world even though his partners having tough times.
But anyway Id really appreciate it if anybody can shed some light on any of these problems for me.
I don't have tank details as such to give away, but right now my problem is with the fridging and her going red and fungal not my tank levels. My tank generally has no problems besides when I work overtime and I cant run home to throw ice bottles in to keep it cool, and Niko seems to be specially susceptable to getting fungal problems if its tiny bit too hot. I have no substrate I just keep the tank free and clean besides three large rocks and two little hiding holes (one each
)
What am I doing wrong with the fridging? I can't take her to a vet because here in China if its not a cat or a dog its classed as food or a pest. Nobody seems to deal with exotic pets here. So i'm on my own guys unless one of you randomly lives in Beijing and has details to share with me?
I thought I was a good owner, or at least I was a for a year, and I'm a veggie on top so I'll be pretty unhappy if im doing damage to lil Niko.
I'll try get some pictures if she looks worse or the same tomorrow.

Don't be too harsh on me though please because they have been happy lil guys ever since I got them until now with no major problems just the odd hiccup here and there.
