Lissotriton and Mesotriton

Hi, I found that the genus Triturus was divided into Lissotriton, Mesotriton, and Triturus. What is the meaning of the genus: Lissotriton and Mesotriton ???

-triton means newt, as for meso- and lisso-, i'm not sure but i have a feeling it has something to do with rocks.

Meso is Greek for middle, and Lisso is smooth.
