It's a warm afternoon in May, in fact, one of the first warm days since Winter. In the last 24 hours, the water temperature in a weed-choked pond has risen sharply. Among the weeds at the surface of the pond, smooth newts (Lissotriton (formerly Triturus) vulgaris) are courting and spawning:

I found a video on a website which showed some newts are swimming. What species of these newts? Are they Lissotriton vulgaris vulgaris?

Yep Lissotriton vulgaris, someone else get the subspecies. Whatever they are they are beauties!
