Hi all,

Short story;

So I bought some eggs last year. Lots were fuzzy and some weren't... We have ended up with one really cute albino. She (I know it may not be a she) is in her baby tank ready to go into the 180ltr tank when she's bigger... Pinky is about 3 cm in size and it has been impossible to find her a friend the same size; Is she lonely?

I rescued 2 fully grown adults from somebody listing them for free and as fish on Pre Loved. They bread instantly while I was waiting to rehome them (after 2 bloody days :eek:) , the chap who rehomed them took their eggs. They seemed to enjoy the company of one another and eat together.

Im not sure if I am humanising them and being a mad lady! I didn't want a sad axie :(

This is Pinky!

Pinky looks like a Golden Albino.

Axolotls are mainly solitary in the wild, they don't have to be kept together but they have no problem being kept with other Axolotls in captivity. My girlfriend has 4 in her tank, as long as they are well fed they won't be tempted to snap at each other. Also have plenty of hides and spaces for them to be apart.

When keeping Axolotls together you want them to be within 1-2 inches of each others size so there's less chance of accidents, Axolotls will potentially try to eat anything they can fit in their mouths.

Perhaps just find a breeder who has some juveniles available?

You can find Axolotls for sale in the For Sale section of this forum: For Sale, Give-Away or Trade - FS: United Kingdom (just UK) at Caudata.org Newt and Salamander Portal

I also have a couple wild type Axolotls that I am raising at the moment but they are only about an inch long so far.

Thank you for that information. I'm sure I see pinky as being lonely because I thinks she's a real person :p She was breed from 2 leucistic parents so I had thought thats what she would be... I didn't originally want an albino (don't burn me with fire) but she's cute. Nice to know she's a golden albino. Its the eyes I am not a fan of.

I did find a seller of lecistic types but was worried hers were too big at 10 cm, maybe its not an issue. I'm just worried, I don't want to watch pinky get eaten :eek: I'll leave her on her own for a little longer and maybe get her a tank mate when she's bigger and in the big tank. Then there will be plenty of caves and hiding places if they annoy one another!

Thanks again!

I think there would have been dominant genes in the parents which gave the outcome of a Golden Albino. Golden's are one of my favorite.

Yes I would not put any Axolotl that is much bigger in with a small juvenile, too risky. Axolotls have the ability to eat anything they can fit in their mouths.

Just keep looking, there will be a breeder that is holding juveniles of a similar size. You can check the For Sale section of this forum!

I'm so glad you asked this question!!

We'll be getting an Axie in a few weeks and I have the hardest time imagining how one can be happy alone. LOGICALLY I know they don't care one way or the other. But we have two cats, two gerbils, four children . . . singles are not our thing!
