Alright guys, so long story short, i had a 29 gal tank for one axie.. went to go get him/her and they werent there.. in the time ive been waiting, i got a 55 gal tank and plan to get 3 or four young guys... advice on genders... having that many in one tank together that young( they are currently 1.5 in long) ? i have done loads of research and heard it can go one way or the other... i dont know how the breeder has them now, i am waiting to hear.. My tank is currently cycling with a penguin filter with biowheel.. i have lots of plants in there as well... I dont want a lot of flow so debating taking out the 20gal repto filter i have and putting it in there... would i be able to use the biowheelfilter for y 29 gal and breed guppies and ghost shrimp? i also have a 5.5 gal tank that i am currently housing five fry in and they are doing very well. I had to take mom and dad out today because they were being feisty. I plan to get another 5.5 gal to house these two since they are doing os well together.. and advice on feeding ghost shrimp or guppies? any and all words are welcome. Thank you all in advance, i cannot thank you all enough for all you have posted and taught me already!!!

You will not be able to tell genders until they are much larger, usually in the 6-8 inch range.

If your axolotls are really only 1.5 inches long, I would not put them in your 55 gallon yet. In a tank that large, they will have trouble finding food you put in and filtration that would be fine for adults will probably be way to much for them.

I would put them in a smaller tank, somewhere around 20 gallons until they are at least 3-4 inches long. At that point I would move them to your 55g.

I don't feed my axolotls live food. Since you are raising your own guppies, you may be fine as far as parasites/diseases go, but I would be concerned that the guppies would nip at your axolotl's fronds, especially with very small juvenile axolotls. I would be inclined to feed frozen bloodworms until your axolotls get bigger.

I hope you axolotls do well!
