Haha cute, your leucistic is always trying to sit on its tank mate... Must be comfy ;)

I want a roommate who lets me sit on top of him/her while watching TV or so.

haha Ajax has always been the bigger fella and enjoyed sitting on Peppy. It's reminds me of finding nemo...

"I shall call you squishy and you shall be my squishy!"

Peppy is his little squishy that he loves oh so much <3 hahaha

Love it...and love them....it's great watching them cosying up.....here's a couple of mine in the loving mode ;)

Hi guys :)

They are adorable!

Is your leucistic's mouth/jaw always like that? It reminds me of Mortimer's mouth/jaw....and I think he has MBD. Sorry to follow a compliment up with something potentially worrisome. Could you post a few more face pics that show his/her mouth up close?

Hmmm... I looked up MBD symptoms for axolotls.

My Derpy has a slightly open mouth all the time (not near as bad as the one in the pictures above though) and he actually has a slightly upwards curved spine compared to my other axies. He's always been like that; since I got him from that very bad pet store... I wasn't in the know back then.

In the beginning he was the most difficult one for me; he'd refuse his food much more often than other axies I'd ever had. Changing diets for him is quite difficult; getting him to eat pellets during winter time when I didn't have any worms was a painstaking process. Changing back to earthworms when I could get them again was the same, even though he'd had the exact same ones before.

Right now he's on a good diet of lovely nutritious earthworms however; he's somewhat sluggish throughout the day but at night he must be very active... he's the only male and I can't tell you how many spermatophores he's left for me to clean up every morning. So he's quite active at night :p

So he's fine right now, but nothing about this open mouth or curved spine ever changes. I suppose that means the deformities are permanent?

No, his mouth isn't normally like that. He was just eating a large prawn when I was taking pictures hence such a fat swollen looking face and open mouth in the pics where he is alone :)

But thank you for looking out for my precious babies and pointing that out :)

Sorry I'm just seeing this. I need to figure out how to get notifications on here....

I think that the deformities must be permanent. At least, Mortimer's seem to be. :(

He seems happy and healthy, otherwise, though. I hope he isn't in pain related to it. His spine isn't curved, but his mouth is always gaping open.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
