Hi all.

So my juvie lotls are getting soooo big. I was looking them over just now... and I found one wild type with VERY bumpy skin.

I thought it looked rather odd so I removed it from the others and put it in its own container. All my other juvies are smooth and sleek looking.

This one looks like it has blisters and bumps all over its lower half with a few on its head and legs.

Anyone ever see anything like this before? Should I do a salt bath or a tea bath?

I just hope it is not something that will spread to my other critters. It does look like some type of skin condition- not natural. The bumps are skin tone.. but clearer so they look kind of like small blisters.

Any ideas???

I have no idea what that is Im sorry. Could it be something in the water or plant he/she has reacted to??? Can axies have allergies???
I hope you can find out waht it is and I hope he/she gets better soon

I think it could be natural. Some axolotls tend to be very smooth while others, usually wildtypes, can be quite bumpy. I've never seen it to the extreme as on your axolotl but I can't see anything that looks like disease. Keep an eye on it and update us with any changes. Does it seem happy and eating ok?

Regards Neil

I just checked on the little guy again... it looks like it is getting worse???? :( His skin seems to have more bumps farther up on the back now and his eyes are cloudy and tail is curled like he is stressed. He seemed happy enough earlier in the day... but he doesn't look happy now.

Something is wrong with the mucus coating? Could it be an infection of the skin? I don't know what to do for this little one. I have never seen or heard of something like this.

I recently put a peace lilly in their tub... just the roots in the water. Maybe this one is allergic to it?
Seems strange. The others look healthy as can be. There is a golden that is slightly bumpy... but it looks like natural bumpy... not like the wildtype.

:-( I dunno.

I guess I will do a water change and maybe put a tea bag in with him.

The tannins from the tea help sooth irritated skin. The caffeine and other good things in tea can help healing and stimulate blood flow to the skin.

Thats really cool, i will remember that. I know Peace lillys are toxic to people when they are ingested or sometimes even touched. Maybe that is why! Did the lumps only appear after you put it in?

I'm not sure... it could have had lumps for a while and I wouldn't have noticed because it is a wildtype and dark in my room. I would think that it would be getting much better now (if it was the peacelilly) because it is in nice clean water by itself.

How is your bumpy lotl today grace???

Podge has bumpy skin, don't worry about it...

My bumpy lotl is doing better now Lea! Thanks. His eyes have cleared up- he is still bumpy, but his skin is not inflamed and cloudy looking.

Zoe- I know some axolotls have bumpy skin. This was not normal on my baby wildtype. His skin was very irritated. But he is looking more normal now. :)

Did you use tea??? Was it the peace lily do you think???

No I do not think it was the peace lilly. The little one just had a skin problem for a bit. The tea helped. The little wild is still bumpy but that must just be that way it is. No more mucus skin problem! :)

Thats good. Glad he/she is better
