I have spent the entire day reading and watching videos about Axolotls. And I now know A LOT about them. But I'm only 15 years old, and still living at mum's house. And I doubt she shares the same idea of having these amazing creatures are our home. So how do I convince her? What should I tell/ask her for? Some info:
If I get allowed, I will ofcourse pay for everything. (Tank, Axolotl itself, plants, sand, a few rocks of a good size, and so on) In total it'll be around 800kr (107,48 EUR)(93,29 GBP)(136,99 USD). I have all the money ready, and basicly all I need is to get approved by my mother, and buy the stuff.

Just a heads up, $136.99 (US) won't go too far in terms of fish tank, filters, sand, plants, and all the needed equipment.

But in terms of trying to convince your mom, just show her a picture and she will fall in love.

The guy who told me about the prices and such. Said that the tank had everything needed with it.
Tank+pump, filter, etc: 400kr (46,65 GBP)
Sand: 100kr (11,66 GBP)
Axolotl: 250kr (29,15 GBP)
Plants/Rocks: 50kr (5,83 GBP)

You should create a powerpoint and show it to her. Show how easy they are to look after. If you know a pet shop selling axolotls, take her there. Hope she changes her mind. My parents let me have one after I told them how easy they are to look after.

Also tell her they are interesting and educational. you will learn stuff from them:D

Your mother is probably worried you will loose interest after a couple weeks and she will have to do everything!

You just need to prove you are dedicated and mature enough to look after your pet. I would suggest you write down everything you will need to do daily, weekly and monthly, Like feeding, cleaning and water changes and how you will do these and how long they will take, also write a list of shops you will by supplies like food.

I believe if your mother can see you are well prepared, and knows how un-demanding Axolotl are when well kept she will not be able to say no!

I hope you convince her. Good luck

Actually, we also have a dog, which I walk with once a day, sometimes 2, if needed. And I have done that for 5 years now :) I think she should know by now, that I can take care of an too Axolotl? Just requires some minutes every day.

Okay, so you have proven yourself to be a responsible pet owner. I would have a sit down with her and discuss it as an adult - find out what her concerns are - if any. You are armed with knowledge now and if she asks a question you don't know the answer to, you know where to come for the answer. You can also show her this Forum so she knows you have somewhere to immediately go for support should you encounter any problems. Good luck! ;)

Thanks. I'll try mix all your ideas together. I'm just worried I'll get a no from her.

hi
as i said on the other forum.....my daughter got hers for her 16th and that is when i fell in love with them.....maybe...if it was something you 2 did together(you do the work and mum can see how good you are at ) then mum even want one herself.....some quality time with mum...good luck....i hope you can get one....please let us know if you are able to get one

You might mention that axolotls are much easier pets to keep than a dog. Once they are adult - which happens in about half a year, depending on how old they are when you get them), they only have to be fed once a week! And their tanks cleaned. This makes them very practical for people who like/need to travel or for any other reason don't want to be tied down by a pet. They don't make noise, don't make a mess in the house, don't chew furniture, require walks or petting, they eat worms that you can dig up for free.

If Mom's of an ecological nature, you could tell her that axolotls rely almost entirely on being kept as pets for their continued existence.

You could offer to let her name it?

Good luck to you!

Tell her that the ones found in nature are critically endangered. Be sure to find a photo of one smiling too! It's easy to take care of, but another thing you may have to consider into the price of everything is keeping the water cool either by getting a fan and a variety of food, water conditioning and such

Honestly, however nerdy this may sound, write a persuasive essay. (I know, it sounds nerdy, but try it!)
Explain to her what you would do for care, and show off all of the knowledge you have of an axolotl. Show her that you have enough money for it and you have calculated the cost. In addition, try to have some money left over so that you don't go broke. (Believe me, my parents ALWAYS make sure I will have money left over if I want to buy a pet.) Maybe even tell her you will get rid of some things to get the axolotl.

P.S., Even though the persuasive essay sounds nerdy, TRY IT! It's worked for me to get 2 sugar gliders, 2 Russian tortoises, fish, and a hamster. (In addition to our dog and cat...)

My best friend actually got me my axie for my birthday, so my parents didn't really have a say, because she knew I wanted one for a really long time before that.

I asked my parents before she bought him though, they said it's fine as long as I do all the cleaning and feeding.

I like the idea of a power point, include information about foods, environment, tank mates, cleaning. I'm sure if you could persuade your mum that you will look after this animal, she'd be more than happy to let you have one.
