I want to say my axalotl is female but I'm not sure the tips of it's fingers are grayish black and I've heard that's sexually mature how do I know if it's male or female though

If it is sexually mature, usually it's the size of the cloaca that determines the sex.
The toe tips are a good indicator of sexual maturity, but the size and age also play a role.
Generally if it's around 5 inches long or larger, and around 8 months old.
Sometimes they're younger, smaller, older or larger before they mature; it really depends.

This one appears to be female, but I say 'appears' to be, based on the view I can see of it's cloaca and knowing nothing else about it. The cloaca could get larger, it could stay like that and very well be a female.

There is a thread on sexing them; most likely a few of them. If you search for them and read up on it, you'll have a better chance at determining what it is than I could guess for you.

Best of luck; it looks healthy and active :)

[Yes, I copy/pasted :x I really have no further information to add; sorry >.>;;]
