Marmoratus eating trouble, Please help!

One of my marmoratus isn't eating, he refuses any form of food, not even a nice worm which would normally be irresistible! He just turns away his head, in disgust it seems. The other ones are doing fine and there is even one that's getting too fat in my opinion. However I'm really worried about this one. He's getting skinny now and his hip-bones are starting to show. He doesn't like the water at all, mostly just sits in a random place on the land part. There are no signs of fungus or anything.

How can I diagnose what is bothering him? Should I quarentain him? I'm afraid he will die if this continues!
 
Try to smell him. If he smells of moss then it's fungi. I know it might sound strange but it's a good way of telling if they are ok

Thanks for the advice, but he smells just like my other newts.

Do you think it would be wise to quarentain him?
 
Well I quarentained him just to be sure and to monitor him better.

Doesn't anyone know any tips except smelling him?
 
try other foods. Once my paramesotriton suddenly did exactly what you said at both bloodworm and earthworm. I thought he was ill, but I tried water hoglice (pond crustaeceans) and it went crazy over them. I would check that the newt doesn't eat other foods.

Thanks again for the advice, but as I said, it refuses any forms of food, I tried just about everything
 
Hi Coen,
have you tried waxworms? Had trouble with a granulosa refusing any food untill I tried waxworms. After a few weeks on them he recovered and ate normal.

Well, I tried waxworms, but it rejects them too. I decided to place him back in the big tank, maybe he'll feel more comfortable there, lots of hiding places to choose from. He's still pretty active after I tried to seduce it for dinner, however this could also be fear.

I also noticed his tail seems a bit ...lifeless. I don't know how to explain it. When he wants to go to an opposite direction he often walks over it's own tail.
 
The lower half of his body (hind legs, tail) is also always bend in a certain way, but he can strecth though.
 
Maybe you could try to put him in a cold quarantine for a few days and then bring him back to warmer waters. Might trigger his need for food.

Awesome news! To my surprise I found my non eating marmoratus hanging out on top of some waterplants in my tank! Normally he wouldn't even want to enter the water. So I thought well...this looks good, let's try to feed it a worm, and it IMMEDIATLY grabbed it and started eating it like a madman! Maybe his Quarantaine helped.

Well, I haven't seen him eating since. But he's more active in the water definatly. He still has a lot of trouble with moving around though, it seems as if his right back leg is paralized. Does this sound familiar for anyone?
 
About the back legs and tail being limp, have you fed him enough Calcium? Could it be metabolic bone disease? I know Jennewt had this problem with her marmoratus. Hers had bumps on their backs though...

Hope this isnt the case and he gets well.
 
I hope this isn't the case, but it could be, he walks extremely clumsy. Is there some sort of treatment if it is metabolic bone disease?

Is it me or does he have a lump on the spine between his back legs??
If he has a lump it is probably the same thing that Jen's marmoratus had.
I dont think there's a cure, I have never heard of it anyway. Jen's newt died. You should check with some of the more experienced people around here. Jen probably has some advice and Sergé was the first one saying her newt had MBD for sure.

Do a search for MBD and you will find the thread with Jen's newt.
