I bought a new type of material for making 50/50 land/water setups. I've used it for two setups, and I'm pretty happy with it.
Matala pond filter media is sold by various online vendors. I bought it in 36x36" pieces and used a heavy serrated knife to cut it to size. The material over the outside of it is Repti-carpet (a polyester felt-like material).
Both tanks have a filter with the intake in the water area, and outflow at the back corner of the land area. This prevents the water under the land area from stagnating.
