Maturing/pigments

I've had my axolotl for a couple weeks now and it seems like he is getting more reflective pigments than he had when I first got him. He is also a golden albino, and he seems to be getting more and more gold (when I got him he was nearly white). And his gills are getting really red (they were a pale pink). And the gills seem to be growing more feathery. Is this normal for an axolotl. He is about 5 inches and very active and seems to be very healthy.

my golden did that so i suppose its normal. they can change colour as they grow as you have seen in wildtypes. as for the gills there is heaps of theorys on that, lots of oxygen, not enough and so on, i dont worry about them if their waters good, a nice temp and theyve been acting normally.

Yep, just wait and watch! He's got a lot more growing to do yet.

Ok it's pretty cool watching him go through all the changes. He changes so quickly, I was gone for 3 days and I came back and I could see a difference. Also he has a mutation lol, he has a foot growing out of his elbow lol. You can't really tell what it is until you get up close and yup there it is...a foot. lol.
