Mealworms and waxworms

Anyone feed mealworms or waxworms? If so, do you take any precautions before offering them, such as crushing the mouthparts?

I also understand that these cannot be used as a staple food because of their high fat content? Is this true of both mealworms and waxworms, or one more so than the other?
