Mist

I recently got hold of a diffuser, that is, a machine that uses ultrasound to create mist. I have now installed this in the water with my newts, the diffuser itself is inside a clay pot. What I would like to ask is whether this machine can cause harm to my newts?

Putting a finger right on top of the machine causes pain but not injury, but newts are smaller and shall we say, "squishier" than me!
f a newt climbs inside the pot could it be hurt and if so how do I avoid this? I did try to cover the pot with a fine mesh but this more or less disabled the machine.

I would appreciate any advice or suggestions

I have put my finger on the ultrasonic humidifier piece before too, and it is quite a shock. It is easy to assume that a newt could be severely injured by this machinery. You should make the unit completely sealed off from the rest of the tank (making an enclosure with plastic hardware cloth comes to mind). Other than aesthetics, what real purpose does this serve? If it's not there for a legitimate reason, you may be taking an unnecessary risk.

These items can also raise the temperature of the water by a significant amount.

Well, now I have covered the pot with a fine mesh so the newts shouldn´t be able to get too close...

I dont think the temperature should be a problem in this case as I´m only planning to keep it turned on for shorter periods but I will have to keep an eye on it. I guess I have to wait and see how it works out.

Thanks for helping out!
