Modifying or creating a glass/fish tank lid

hi guys

shortly i hope to get a pair of fire salamanders.

ive already got a tank but it just has a regular fish tank lid for it which isnt tight fitting at all. Im really concerned they might climb and escape.

how can i make the lid tight fitting or create a new lid?

Duct tape? A new screen lid would only cost $10-20, depending on the size.

Yeah I want one of those screen lids but in the u.k they. Dont sell them so customising one would be the best option I believe as the tank came with one of those regular plastic fish tank lids that doesn't sit tight.

Another idea for you is to make a wooden frame. I mean I made one for my 10 gal and its escapee proof (and insect escapee proof). It took a lil while to make but its cost efficient. I know that you can also make a makeshift wire screen using industrial wire type material. I have no money for this hobby (20$+ wire screens are too expensive), so I make do with scrap material found around the house.

I agree with the duct tape. Maybe cut some screen to a good size and modify it with duct tape, cardboard, etc. to make it stay on securely.

Thanks for the replies guys.is there anywhere I can see this duct tape method as I'm unsure on how the lid will fit tight. The wooden frame sounds like a good idea
