I previously posted that I found a salamander in my basement and put him in a container with a wet paper towel. Well, he has now turned almost completely WHITE! The paper towels I used were bleached with non-chlorine bleach. What have I done to this poor animal! I will wait a bit for a response but then I will just let him go outside and let nature take its course. Oh my goodness!! I hope he is not suffering.

Regular white paper towels are used for salamanders all the time. I use Bounty, if that helps any. I think your sal turned white for some other reason. But you can buy unbleached paper towels just to be sure.

He looks like either the Clouded salamander or the Aboreal Salamander. I live in the North Berkeley Hills in California. I have only had him a few hours. I was planning on letting him go outside when it got dark.
