Lucky you, Russ!

A. opacum is 'exterpated' from Michigan (if it was ever really here in the first place), so we don't get to see them up here.

A nice collection of specimens. A good day of 'fishing'.

Edit: Is that last one P. ruber?

Very nice shots, Russ. Were you fishing for.... salamanders?;)

I will hint not-so-subtly that there will soon be another competition for photos for the 2008 caudata.org calendar. Also, you should try out the new Gallery section that this forum has, it has some cool features.

Those are awesome! I've been looking for marbled slanders for years! Nice finds!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
