My axie is near the surface a lot more than normal

He has been near or on the surface a lot more than normal recently. I think it's because he was gulping more air cause I needed to change the water. I changed it yesterday and my plan at this point is to wait and see if that fixes it. I might change the water again today. I also am going to clean his filter. He's still eating and aside from his being near the surface, his habits appear normal. Is this a symptom of anything in particular? Do you know what else might fix it?

Also, it's in the cooler months where I live, so might it be a mating-season thing?

what are the water parameters ie.. temperature, ph, ammonia, nitrites, nitrate, kh gh if possible
there are a few reasons axolotls will spend time near surface, water too warm, water oxygenation is inadequate, problem with water parameters namely ph, ammonia, nitrites.
