Hey Everyone,

I have had my morphed Axy Princess for a few months now  and she is doing really well.

Just so everyone knows she didn't morph when I had her and I would never try to morph an Axy because its so cruel. She morphed at the pet shop. They couldn't find her anywhere for months and assumed she had escaped and died but when they upgraded their fish tanks and had to pull their old system out they found her behind the fish tanks.

Somehow she had managed to survive and had morphed to adapt to the conditions. I have had her for a while now and just gave her tank a makeover and she loves it! At the moment she eats mealworms and garden worms. :frog:She is a healthy weight and has a great character.

When I wake up in the morning she always comes to the side of the tank closest to me and puts her hand up on the glass

Anyway here are some pics and if anyone has any tips for her care please let me know. Shes a little muddy in the pics because she had just been for a swim

Very cool! I'm so glad you're taking such good care of her.

She looks awsome, i guess they need the same care as tiger salamanders, temp somwhere 16-20C, high humidity, places to dig and hide, feeding with worms, crickets or even baby mice.
But seems like you already know all this :)

Yes tiger salamander care articles will give you the best tips.
glad to know one is doing well. I hope she continues to have good health.

She looks very healthy, take a look at some Tiger Salamander care articles and this should help the both of you. Best wishes to your beautifully morphed axie.

This looks a nice setup. It makes my morphed axie box look positively bare and scruffy! My (artificially but carefully) morphed one likes to spend the day in a shallow bowl filled with elodea and the night on land. It seems more aquatic than I expected and does not burrow much. Does yours behave like a mole?

I'm feeding mainly earthworms: It is getting very good at bending its head upwards and begging! It also probably eats woodlice in the leaf litter in the box.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone,

She is such a cutie. She used to be nocturnal when I first got her but she has now got used to my habits so she wakes when I wake because she knows I'll feed her before I go to work.

Usually she spends most of the morning having a swim and most of the day buried in the soil or under a slab of slate.

She gets a little muddy if she swims and then goes burrowing because everything sticks to her. She has grown so much in just a few months that I think she actually sheds every other day or so. Her skin looks amazing right after a shed. Attached are some pics of that..

I have just re-vamped her vivarium and I think it looks great so I'll try and take a full picture of it. It's abosolutely huge for her because I had it already as an old fish tank before I got her. :D

The last picture made me laugh, because it's so adorable :)
Does their behaviour stay pretty much the same as non morphed axies? Or are they more... scared, active, agressive, nicer, anything else?

Anyway, pretty axie :D

Haha, I wish I could tell you! Surprisingly I've never kept salamanders or axolotls before, but I had previously read about them so I knew the basic care requirements when I got her.

I had been interested in keeping either salamanders or frogs for a while and when I saw her I just fell in love and had to have her!

She is confident but also gets spooked easily because her eyesight is awful. I didn't mention this earlier but I have to feed her by hand with tweezers....she can't find the food on her own. I think she only sees shadows because you have to put the food right by her mouth and sometimes even press it gently to her mouth before she takes it and she doesn't take dried food (I ran out of live once and the pet shop had none in) my theory being because it doesn't wiggle? lol

She also has a strange relationsip with water....loves a swim but hates getting sprayed with the mister...she does this adorable quick backwards walk/wiggle to get under the peice of slate when she gets sprayed haha.

Can I have everyones opinions on any potential tankmates she could have? For instance would I ever be able to get a tiger salamander and put it in her tank?

she is so beautiful......please keep us updated on how she is going.....

Are those some extra toes I see in the second group of pictures?

When I wake up in the morning she always comes to the side of the tank closest to me and puts her hand up on the glass

awwwww how adorable! ^_^

i do love that lovely first photo of the second batch - a proper pose! she really is a little star hiding out like that for so long. unreal!
