I posted pictures of this before <http://www.caudata.org/forum/f46-beginner-newt-salamander-axolotl-help-topics/f47-newt-salamander-help/85175-newt-ambystomid-different-specimen-than-my-other-recent-thread.html> -- BEFORE it metamorphosed. It finished metamorphosis this past Saturday (10 Nov 2012) -- seemed to breathing with lungs finally.

It still spends a lot of time in the water. Is there any way to "make sure" it becomes a red eft?

If the gills are completely absorbed, you can move it to a terrestrial setup.

I doubt he'll ever be really red. I think that color is due to their diet in the wild. But if he spent enough time there, maybe he'll develop the redness.
