Four days ago, we found our paddletail on the floor. He seemed a little lethargic, but when put back into his enclosure, seemed fine. Swimming around as usual, and even ate two peices of worm...
The reason why he escaped was because we had company over, and were showing the new underwater pump in the tank...whoever replaced the screen lid did not do so properly, and there was a two centimeter gap between the screen and side of the tank. He seemed fine yesterday, but when I looked in the tank this morning, he was dead. I am positive he is dead, there is a lot of white stuff floating around him. I think the escape has something to do with it. I thought maybe he absorbed something through his skin that was on the floor. He could have gotten out of the tank the night before, and the max time he was out is 6 hours. I almost stepped on him while I was making coffee in the a.m.
I feel really bad that this happened. Will be certain to double check the terrariums and tanks from now on!
People, check your lids!
