I noticed my "female" GFP axolotl was wagging her tail and was pretty pinkish red and her gills were bright red, I noticed that wasn't right.
I noticed "She" left a sperm packet. That was a total shock ! ! ! All this time I thought Creature was a Female. Well today Creature is officially a male for sure.
I've took a couple of video's to share with everyone.
I do not know if my other 2 Melanoids might be a female ? I know one of my melanoids is a MALE. But the other has a little bump ?
Is it possible that they can do the mating dance with no female in the tank ?
Or do the males know their is a female in the tank which causes them wanting to mate?
What is different in the tank that I set up last night.
I put my 3 juveniles in the tank in 1 gallon jugs floating securely. It is shown in the video. They out grew their tupperwares and I decided this is more easy to maintence, I poked holes in the jugs so any waste can be filtered out.

If you notice red sponges on the bottom of the tank, They fell off of my filter, but my axolotl's love it and creature left a sperm packet on it as well.

Would the smell of the juveniles set off Creature ? I hope he doesn't stress that their is no female..

Happens all the time. I had a female for 18 months before he revealed his true identity. His brothers had almost a full year before. Just a late bloomer.

They had never even seen a female, but all 3 routinely left spermatophores, just in case.

So about how long does it generally take to know the gender?

Anywhere between 6-18 months.
